March Program:  Bioterrorism

“Above all other things the American people wanted peace. They wanted peace of mind instead of gnawing fear,” President Franklin D. Roosevelt, October 31, 1936.   Seventy years later we are still passionate in that quest.

Preparing this Voter article required some research because all I know about Bioterrorism is that I don’t know much.  I certainly don’t have even an elementary grasp of what the threats are, let alone comprehend what ‘preparedness’ entails. So I went to the internet and pulled the following information.

Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002 (the Bioterrorism Act):  The events of Sept. 11, 2001, reinforced the need to enhance the security of the United States. Congress responded by passing the Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002 (the Bioterrorism Act), which President Bush signed into law June 12, 2002.   The Act is divided into the following five titles:
  1. Title I - National Preparedness for Bioterrorism and Other Public Health Emergencies
  2. Title II - Enhancing Controls on Dangerous Biological Agents and Toxins
  3. Title III - Protecting Safety and Security of Food and Drug Supply
  4. Title IV - Drinking Water Security and Safety
  5. Title V - Additional Provisions.
